The Bergen Shetland Races 2010, incorporating a rally for cruising boats, will be conducted on the waters of Bergen, the North Sea and the approach to Lerwick Harbour and vice versa. The race is organized and conducted by the Hordaland Sailing association of Norway with the cooperation of the Lerwick Boating Club of Shetland. 1 RACE The start signal for the race will be signalled at 1300 hours (local time) on Wednesday 16 June 2010.The start of the race will be in Korsfjorden, south of Bergen, Norway and the finish will be in Lerwick Harbour, Shetland. The race is a 194 nautical mile passage race. The start signal for the returnrace will be signalled at 1100 hours (local time) on Sunday 20 June 2010. The start of the race will be in Lerwick Harbour, Shetland and the finish will be in Korsfjorden, south of Bergen, Norway. The returnrace is a 194 nautical mile passage race. Details of the course will be included in the Sailing Instructions. 2 RULES 2.1 General The race is a category 2 race. The race will be governed by the current versions of: The rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) for 2009-2012 with the prescriptions of the Norwegian Sailing Federation (NSF) The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (IRPCAS) ISAF The Equipment Rules of Sailing ISAF 2010-2011 Offshore Special Regulations The updated rules for the Respite System NORLYS 2010 this Notice of Race (“NoR”),except as any of these are modified by the Sailing Instructions. NOTE: AIS will NOT be required for the race as specified in ISAF Offshore Special Regulations chapter 3.29.1.m. However, Sjøassistanse Bergen Shetland Race recommends that AIS will be installed and used on participating yachts.
2.2 International Regulations Whilst a boat in the Cruising Division is operating under its engine the relevant parts of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea will replace the rules of RRS, Part 2 in their application to that boat. 2.3 Amendments The Organising Authority reserves the right to amend this Notice of Race. Amendments will be published on the event website (www.shetland-race.no). Amendments will also be sent to all entrants. 2.4 Sailing Instructions The Sailing Instructions will be issued at, and may be available prior to, the skippers meeting. Thereafter, the Sailing Instructions will be available on request. The Sailing Instructions will also be published on the event website. 3 Tracking To be announced 4 Doublehanded respite system All doublehanded boats sail under LYS. 5 Crew limit Every entered boat in the fully crewed class shall have a crew of minimum 4 persons.
